Testing Capabilities
At Captor Corporation, we perform testing in accordance with customer requirements and other electrical and environmental tests to guarantee a compliant and reliable product. These tests are typically a combination of electrical, mechanical, and environmental inspections.
We also offer environmental stress screening (ESS) and qualification testing. Our team can perform environmental stress screening on every production unit to help identify any latent manufacturing defects. We’ll perform qualification testing on new products for proof of design. The ESS and qualification testing that Captor performs within its facility includes but is not limited to: electrical ATP, vibration, shock, thermal shock, thermal cycling, altitude, humidity, hermetic seal, and burn-in testing.
Types of Testing Captor Offers Explained
At Captor, we offer a full range of testing solutions. Our electrical system and product testing methods include the following:
- Electrical ATP. Captor provides in-depth electrical ATP testing on electrical installations to detect and resolve potential issues, prevent mishaps, help ensure reliable functionality and longevity, and confirm compliance with applicable safety regulations. Our qualified team will perform everything from visual and safety inspections to functional, continuity, insulation resistance, and dielectric withstanding voltage tests to provide a comprehensive look at an installation’s performance.
- Vibration. Captor offers this testing type to identify and review patterns within the vibrations of single parts, structures, or full mechanical systems. The goal is to look for potential defects by examining a product’s condition upon exposure to vibrations.
- Shock. Mechanical shock testing from Captor will help discover whether or not a device can withstand the moderate shocks it might experience during field operation, transport, or even rough processing and handling. While impact testing is an uncontrolled event, shock testing provides a defined pulse amplitude, duration, and shape.
- Thermal shock. The most intensive temperature testing method available, thermal shock testing concludes whether or not an electronic device can withstand sudden and drastic temperature fluctuations. With rapid temperature stabilization, the purpose of this test is to evaluate a product’s performance under extreme thermal conditions.
- Thermal cycling. This type of testing subjects a product to extreme high and low temperatures in an ambient-pressure environment, cycling it between the two thermal conditions at a particular temperature fluctuation rate for evaluation. Our team can observe the system’s performance to confirm that it remains functional during all stages of the thermal cycling process. We’ll run a complete functional test at the initial and final extreme temperature plateaus, operating the system in a static yet active configuration to identify failures.
- Altitude. Electronic devices intended for high-altitude applications must be capable of reliably holding up against the accompanying atmospheric conditions. At Captor, we conduct our altitude testing in a controlled facility, adjusting thermal and related conditions to match those of the intended use environment.
- Humidity. A temperature humidity test inspects a component’s material properties and the effectiveness of packaged devices in withstanding high-humidity conditions. We take electrical measurements at the conclusion of the test.
- Hermetic seal. When a component package has a faulty or damaged seal, the seal will allow moisture, dust, dirt, and related contaminants into the package, negatively impacting its performance and longevity. Sometimes referred to as fine and gross leak testing, hermetic seal testing evaluates a package seal’s effectiveness to determine its dependability.
- Burn-in. A burn-in test helps identify early semiconductor device failure. Over a predetermined operating electrical cycle, which is based on extreme operating conditions for your specific product, we’ll electrically test your device to detect manufacturing flaws.
